Quality Maitrise Hotel, Maida Vale
The first of a new brand Quality Maitrise Hotel has opened in Maida Vale and the 50 bedrooms over four floors of this chic boutique hotel feature casegoods made by ODonnell.Following the brief from the new hotel’s owners, Adilsons Properties, and the hotel’s General Manager Conor Collery, ODonnell’s craftsmen worked with Evolution Design’s Russell Samson to produce some exceptionally sophisticated pieces of furniture that feature a range of man-made and reconstituted wood veneers.
“We were tasked with sourcing and using as much sustainable material as possible without compromising the quality of the finished products,” commented Andrew Burns, ODonnell’s Project Manager for the fit out of the Quality Maitrise Hotel.
A combination of stained Oak and Maccasar Ebony wood veneer finishes were chosen for all the casegoods which included wardrobe doors, headboards, wall panels, ceiling panels, bed frames, full length mirrors, tv/desk units and some L-shaped desks.
All the bedrooms in the new Quality Maitrise Hotel feature some unusual furniture design elements. For example, the Headboard for the double and Queen-sized beds is formed by suede upholstering in a Maccasar Ebony panel with a vertical side panel supporting a cantilevered bedside unit in a contrasting dark stained-oak finish. The centre of the headboard connects with an oak-stained panel mounted on the ceiling that in turn has a spotlight pointing straight down to the centre of the bed.
The bed frames give the illusion of floating in space with the clever juxtaposition of a wide Maccasar panel around the mattress supported on a narrower dark stained-oak base. This base also conceals a compartment to store empty luggage behind a flap at the end of the bed.
The wardrobe doors are Maccasar Ebony veneered and feature a curved laminate recess around the handles.
The tv/desk unit comprises a wide desktop with the television concealed behind a Maccasar Ebony veneered wall panel running floor to ceiling. Only the tv screen is visible as it is flush with the front of the wall panel.
Following the successful opening of the Maida Vale hotel, Conor Collery wants to build on the concept and standardise the design and fit out as a new elite brand for the Quality Hotels chain.
