Hampton by Hilton Corby
ODonnell Furniture Makers work on the new “Hampton” brand by HiltonApril 2009: As a Hilton approved supplier, ODonnell Furniture Makers worked with AB Design (Alastair Bell Design Limited – formerly Bell Slater Limited) in the development and manufacture of Hilton’s new “Hampton” brand. Designed specifically for this upper 3-star style hotel that offers guests value with bundled quality amenities, Hampton mixes wood veneers with laminates for bedroom and bathroom casegoods.
The first fit out using the new design in the UK was at the 88-room Hampton by Hilton Corby, which has recently been completed by ODonnell.
AB Design managed the procurement for the contract and they originally contacted ODonnell in mid-2007 to undertake construction and development of the new brand. Working closely with Joe McCall from Hilton and Kate Long from AB Design, ODonnell produced technical drawings of the new “Hampton” range and several samples were constructed for approval.
At the heart of this design and build project was the need not only to adhere strictly to budget but also to remain within very well defined parameters that are set by Hilton Head Office in America and to which all rooms must adhere. Initially the products were produced in a variety of finishes including Anegre, Walnut, Cherry plus several matching laminates and some dark-stained timber for several detail elements.
A final design was chosen and two sample rooms, one in the Anegre wood finish the other in Black American Walnut, were commissioned, manufactured and installed at the Hilton Head office in Watford. Following detailed room reviews, some items were re-made and other additions made and supplied.
The production version of the Hampton bedroom casegoods range now comprises headboard/wall panel with a cantilevered shelf, free-standing bed base, a combined TV and desk unit and a free-standing oval night stand.
Of the 88 guest rooms at the Hampton by Hilton Corby, 36 feature Cherry Veneer and Piemont Cherry laminate with a blue upholstery finish on the headboard plus matching fabric covered cushions.
The remaining 52 are finished in Black American Walnut Veneer and Walnut Laminate with matching lime green upholstered headboard and cushions.
