Galway City’s World-class 5-star Hotel Features Cutting-edge Irish Style, Design and Craftsmanship

Working with the innovative interiors specialists Douglas Wallace Architects and Designers and Philip Treacy, the internationally renowned milliner, O’Donnell Design Ltd completed delivery of the bedroom casegoods for The ‘G’ , Monogram Hotels’ flagship hotel property.

The G is a 101-bedroom luxury hotel that promises guests meticulous attention to detail from the quality and finish of the interiors to the warmth and professionalism of their service. Following the same business credo, O’Donnell won the tendering process with competitive pricing plus their proven ability to deliver quality furniture and solutions to suit particular design demands for bedroom spaces. They had proved this in their previous work with Douglas Wallace at the Morrison Hotel refurbishment in Dublin.

The G’s overall ambience is one of elegant style and glamour: not least in the bedrooms from superior and deluxe rooms through junior suites right up to the Presidential Suite. While O’Donnells has an established international reputation for supplying casegoods to some of the best-known designer hotels in Europe, The G project posed some different and unique challenges right on their doorstep.

Colin Jennings, Associate Director at Douglas Wallace commented: “We did not want boxy, square furnishings. Our brief to O’Donnell included unusual shapes and finishes. We wanted pieces that were about elegance and glamour. We were striving to achieve an organic and fluid look for the furniture to reinforce the hotel concept but at the same time it had to be practical.”

O’Donnells was given the responsibility of interpreting the product designs and manufacturing them to meet a demanding specification, schedule and budget. All the casegoods – headboards, bed bases, wardrobes, bedside tables, writing desks, oval tv units and mirrored minibar units - feature a Kevasingo veneer. This was, admits Colin Jennings, a very unusual specification for a wood finish but one which gives a beautiful figured veneer and which complements the style of the décor perfectly.

O’Donnells’ high-class workmanship was tested to the full with the G project and as Colin notes: “O’Donnell worked and re-worked our designs to present solutions to answer our demands. We pushed them hard and now they have helped us deliver a first-class project that we are sure will be the envy of the Irish hospitality industry.”
